Bubbles won over audiences when he was often spotted being carried by the King of Pop, usually dressed in lavish clothing. However, he also became entangled in controversies, such as allegedly \”attacking\” a young Rashida Jones and considering retirement.

Jackson\’s chimpanzee led a luxurious lifestyle at Neverland, where it attended glamorous gatherings and even snoozed in a crib inside the pop icon\’s bedroom. The primate once even participated in an event with Jackson.

However, as he became older and bigger and increasingly hostile, he was moved to

in Florida in 2005.

The sanctuary posted on Instagram in celebration of his 20th anniversary at the center: “Today, we’re celebrating 20 years since Bubbles arrived at the Center for Great Apes in 2005 – and since we don’t know his exact birthdate, we’re also celebrating his 42nd birthday today!

“Bubbles has truly thrived at the sanctuary, enjoying the simple joys of being a chimpanzee – climbing, foraging, and spending time with his chimpanzee friends.

Although Bubbles currently leads a serene existence at the Center for Great Apes, his journey to tranquility has been quite rough.

In 2024, Jones recounted a frightening incident where Bubbles bit her hand \”like it was a sandwich\” during a visit to Jackson’s house accompanied by her renowned producer father, Quincy Jones.

The
Parks and Recreation
Star mentioned, \”Bubbles was inside a cage when he removed my hairband from my grasp. Everyone else had exited the room, leaving me to say, \’Return it!\’\”

He was messing around with it and refused to return it to me.

Jones went on: \”I unlocked the cage and he emerged. Afterward, he began darting around the room and tossing books.\”

The actress remembered instructing the chimpanzee with \”No! No!\” and gently tapping his head, something she observed Jackson doing.

Bubbles subsequently clamped down on nine-year-old Jones’s hand.

She added: \”(He) stared directly into my eyes as he bit me. He said, \’I\’m the man.\’\”

Even after the incident, Jones didn’t hold any grudges against Bubbles because she admitted, \”It was my mistake.\”

Jones subsequently quipped, \”No, it\’s not my responsibility. The person who dressed a chimpanzee in overalls and a diaper isn’t me!\”

Adapting to life beyond Neverland was challenging for Bubbles.

Prior to arriving at the sanctuary, Jackson had him relocated from his home to reside with a trainer in 2003.

Sources claimed Bubbles was so miserable without his close pal, he considered taking his own life.

While details on what exactly happened to Bubbles remains uncertain, he was whisked away to an
animal
hospital.

Around the same time, he was sent to the Florida sanctuary, where he remains today.

The estate of Jackson keeps providing financial assistance for Bubbles\’ care at the facility.
